We’re Chris Durst and Mike
Haaren, Boomers both,
and founders
of nifty virtual-careers resource and training firm Staffcentrix. We deliver cool
virtual-careers
training programs to the US State Department and the Armed Forces, and
host the
Internet’s leading source of screened home-based jobs, the kooky Rat Race
Rebellion.
Chris is so fond of Boomer tunes and
movies that her kids
couldn’t get away from them growing up, and now it’s too late. “My
daughter is
the only 16-year-old at her school who knows all the Harry Belafonte
lyrics,”
Chris says. “Clint Eastwood, Bing Crosby,
The
Magnificent Seven,
The King and I…
These were all staples at our house.”
Similarly, Mike never
recovered from a Janis
Joplin concert at
the Alexandria Roller Rink in 1968, or the bedlam on Telegraph Avenue
in Berkeley, Cal.,
that same year, where he was “hanging out” and cluttering up the
sidewalk when
LBJ announced that he wouldn’t run for President. (Mike had been
drafted by the
time Woodstock
came along in the summer of ‘69, but “all the draftees had it on their
radios,”
he says.)
We both still love drive-in movies (Mike is determined to
take his daughter Jazz to one soon, before they all disappear), and one
of the
best brainstorming sessions we ever had was shooting pool and listening
to Sam
Cooke on the juke box in a ‘50s-era bowling alley in Wilmington, Del.
For us, the concept of
“Boomer” is filled with
magic, experimentation,
creativity and growth without end, and we aim to do our part here to
keep that
spirit strong and the Good Times rollin’!
Boomingly Yours,
Chris
& Mike
